Punch Drunkeness (Blog Magazine Issue 64 Excerpt)

My most recent words
are posted on the GACKT Blog Magazine
so check it out if you want to read it all
(Updates 3x a month)

The internet is scary.
Made up stories and things filled with lies
are written just as if they were true.

these things then make their way overseas
and become big news.

It's the tail wagging the dog.

Even laughable stories
are reported overseas as ridiculous "news".

Furthermore, there are fans who, the more they become a fan
the more they swallow news like this whole,
so that's another problem for me.

This is an article from a major news company in China...

Unthinkable things are written in it.

They gather up third rate Japanese articles,
and these reporters from major Chinese newspapers
write them as true.

What has happened to the world's media?

There are a lot of them...
Shall we read one?

"ASKA, a member of the Japanese group Chage and ASKA,
was arrested for drug use.
Police are now focusing on Visual Kei singer GACKT
and female vocalist Imai Miki as their next targets..."

I'm so done with this.

Give me a goddamn break.

Are they going to call writing foundation-less bullshit like this
"Freedom of speech"
"Freedom of expression"
"Freedom of the press"?

It's too idiotic.
It's so idiotic that it's sad.

That said,
I know that up until now,
I've been unduly targeted as an enemy by the shitty media,
so I know these made up articles are going to come out.

"Ah, here's another one..."

That's probably how my fans feel.
Why Imai Miki? WTF?
Why is it Imai Miki???

I know that there are idols,
actors and singers who would commit suicide
if they were under attack from this kind of shit-flinging.

It's considerably difficult psychologically...

If I went bald from this stress,
they wouldn't even pay for treatments, huh?

It's a sad thing.

Just as I was thinking that,
I received a letter from the publisher of that article
that they had taken it down.

["However, in this case, as we do not wish to engage in legal conflict with the notifying party, the article in question has been deleted from Cyzo Woman.

We humbly request your acknowledgement of the above.

Cyzo Inc Representative"]

What the hell is this?

Write whatever you want, and then just take it off the internet, and that's it?
Like you don't have to do anything to deal with what you spread around,
everything's fine now because you deleted it...
Is this what you're calling "free speech"?

It's ridiculous.

They don't care about what they spread around at all.
They don't think it's a bad thing.

This is what the world's media is like...
If they screw up,
they think they can solve the problem just by fucking deleting the article.

They have such a huge impact,
yet they don't care at all.

It's bullshit...

On top of that,
I feel like I'm in a state of punch-drunkenness.
I've been hit so much like this every time,
I don't even know if it hurts or not anymore...

I've been seriously injured again...
I wonder if my heart is completely broken...?

This makes me want to leave Japan.
Is it made up of nothing but these people?

It feels like random people
are suddenly grabbing dog shit off the street
and smearing it in my face.
It's gross...

Then, another letter arrived.

It was a letter sent by a teacher
to say thank you for the surprise graduation ceremony performance
that I went to Tokushima for in March this year.

The teacher wrote about a lot of feelings,
but the lovely words written in that beautiful letter
rescued me from my depressed mood.

There are people who understand.
There are children who feel me giving them a push forward.

It's funny...

My unpleasant feelings were so strong,
but now,
this feeling that I have to keep working hard is welling up...

I guess I'll keep trying then...

My name is GACKT
My motto is "Mr. Smile"

I'm always smiling.
So you go on,
and give me a smile too.

Poor G, those things that get published are disgusting...

As long as he keeps smiling through it, I'm sure the fans will too ^.^

Thank you for the translation!

Thank you for translating, Amaia! I´m a little confused.
Can you tell me, if the Graduation Video is with subtitles?
Or anyone else now it?

no one has translated it yet - to my knowledge - he sang his graduation song and made a speech about pushing forward and how their lives begin now and to do their best (and thats the parts i understood but i dont understand enough to translate)

What I love about him, is that he does keep on smiling through all the bad tabloids.

It´s unthinkable how frustrated and helpless he must feel sometimes. But I do hope people have heard so much insane stories about him that they no longer take them too seriously. The way Cyzo tried to deal with this is loathsome, trying to save their skin in such a pitiable way. Good move for GACKT to make it public.

I wonder if G is the only high profile celebrity standing against tabloids in a war that´s not going to end well, I fear. As long as people are buying those papers and clicking those websites nothing changes.

Thank you for the translation. Lately these blogs have been very interesting and thought provoking.

Dear Gaku, the media is the same in Western countries too... or worse... :S I understand him being so upset though... it's really has been too much lately. He's doing great at handling it though. All my respect goes out to him.

Thanks, Amaia!

WTF is going on. It seems like every year there is a wave or two of crazy allegations.

He's got enough on his place. He doesn't need this Bullshit.

Ah, as usual with the Chinese newspapers. The Chinese government controls all that comes in and out of the Chinese media. They're just control freak like that. This is probably one of those brainwashing things they usually do in their country to control the people. Sad, really. :-|

Thank you for the translation! Definitely upsetting stuff those people are publishing. They clearly do not care about the psychological welfare of those whose names they drag through the mud. :(
