GACKT Channel Issue 33 (Preview)

I'm here

(I wonder if you know where this is?)

This is a photo of Shijo Street from Yasaka Shrine [=famous places in Kyoto]
This scenery brings back memories.
It's changed quite a lot since back then.

Rather than a change in the buildings and shops themselves,
the spirit of the city has changed.
It's clear that it's lost its vigor.

Even so, I have a lot of memories here.
Yasaka Shrine in the middle of the night
has a mysterious energy.
I thought no one would be here,
but surprisingly there are more people than I expected.
I guess there are people other than me
who like visiting shrines at this hour of the night.

(Whenever I come here, I feel calm)

A lot of people are afraid of walking in the pitch dark,
but I love it.
Though it does look quite bright in the photos,
it's quite dark through human eyes and I think normal people would be scared.

I'm not sure if it's lucky or unlucky,
but my eyes are good at seeing in the dark.
Well, it's nothing I can brag about,
but my eyes that can't adjust to light
are useless during the day,
but in exchange for that, I can see better than anyone else at night.

Thanks to that, I've hardly ever been scared of the dark.

What's scary isn't the dark, but human minds and the existence of humans.
I often think about stuff like that.
Living humans are far more terrifying than ghosts.

(Yasaka Shrine enveloped in stillness)

How many years has it been since I visited here...?

I guess that the reason some of it is different from the
image I have in my head is that they probably had the Gion Festival.
It might not be completely over yet.
When they finish packing up, this place will be more enveloped in darkness.

(Too nostalgic...)

It's strange, but there are some moments that feel like it was just yesterday.
This place is filled with lots of memories.

After passing through Yasaka Shrine,
in Maruyama Park, there was a mysterious feeling as if it were a long time ago.
Like just in this place, time is flowing in a seperate dimension.

Memories from 20 years ago spring back to life in an instant.
It's not that I particularly want to wallow in memories.

I'm just organizing them.
Organizing my recollections and memories.

(A place I often walked)

My feet turned themselves towards
familiar paths.

"I still remember..."

While whispering that to myself...

Thank you very much for the translation Amaia!!!!!

I wonder what it would be like to walk with him? Seeing those pictures, I wouldn't mind walking around with him. Just him remembering would be wonderful to take part in.

Thank you, as always, Amaia!!

I love his introspection and quiet meditations. I too love the stillness and peacefulness of the middle of the night. </p>

There is a communion with nature that can only be had under the veil of night.

I hope he had a wonderfully calm and fulfilling night to himself.

PS: fun thought... GACKTvision = Nightvision! Lol

Thank you so much for the translation! I'm glad I'm not alone in being scared of people more than anything else. LOL.

I can see better than anyone else at night.
Bring it on, GACKT.

What's scary isn't the dark, but human minds and the existence of humans.
I wrote an essay on this back in high school... It's interesting hearing him voice the same opinion.

This entire entry is interesting - that he focuses on a shrine and surrounding grounds the whole time is pretty cool.
The pitch dark is calming. For some reason, I find the world so much more beautiful at night. There's a peace that late night brings to the land.

I wonder where that path leads...

As always, thank you for translating this, Amaia!

Oh, what a lovely post. I like it when he's so contemplative...

"Living humans are far more terrifying than ghosts."
THIS. Agree with him 200%.

Thanks Amaia!

Thank you, Amaia! Sorry, I´m a little bit late with my comment.
Please carry on with your GACKT translation!
I have a question Amaia, what`s about the GACKTblog? And is there
a 2nd part of the "Preview"? Sorry for that stupid question, but
I`m a bit confused.

"Preview" means it's the part visible to non-members on the NicoNico site. I can't translate the rest because I'm not a member.

Recently the GACKTblogs have been 95% copy and pasted NicoNico posts, just with his little introduction (which is the same thing every time) and a handful of sentences at the end. Since the blog posts are often posted much later than the NicoNico post, I decided to just translate from the NicoNico post rather than wait. Honestly the handful of extra sentences in the blog posts haven't been interesting enough to motivate me to add them in.
